Do I need to sign-in in order to purchase books?

No, you can purchase books without signing in.
Sign in is needed only for some of our extra features. For more information please see our why should I sign in help section.

How do I purchase a book?

As you might have noticed we are a book search and price comparison engine and not a book store.
Using our engine you can easily find any title you are looking for. After you have found it, click on Compare Prices next to it, and you will see the list of stores that sell this book. In the last column you will see links that point to those stores. Clicking on any of those links will send you to the store, where you can purchase the book.
For example, let's say you were looking for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. After seeing all the editions, you decided that you want the hardcover one. If you click on Compare Prices next to it, you will see a comparison page showing all the stores that sell this book. Now let's say you choose to buy at Barnes & Noble. By clicking on Buy at Barnes & Noble, you will be directed to Barnes & Noble, where you will be able to purchase the book.

You have wrong author/title information. Can you correct it?

Sorry, but we can not.
Our data is collected from several ISBN databases. Unfortunately we can not control their data.

What is the message I've seen on the comparison page?

In order to keep this service banner-free we need your help.
We kindly request you to recommend us to your friends, and if you have a website, to link to us.
Every recommendation and every link counts.
As for the message itself - it will disappear after comparing another book and will not be shown again.
Thank you very much for your help,
FetchBook team.

How do I know that the results I'm seeing are really objective?

It's simple - you can test us...
We are striving to bring you the best offers you can find on the web. As such we are searching through dozens of book stores, with no preference to any store. You can run a short test to validate that: compare new and used books prices from different categories and you'll see that none of the book stores keeps showing consistently as the cheapest, rather each and every time a different store offers the best deal.

Are the results I'm seeing up to date?

Yes. We are fetching the information in real time.
Usually the comparison information is relevant for 10-15 minutes. After that, new offers might show up, used books might have been sold, stores might have changed prices, books that were available might not be and vice versa.
If more than 15 minutes have passed from the moment you've issued the comparison and until you want to execute the transaction, we strongly recommend you to issue another comparison to get an updated information.

Is there one store that is consistently cheaper?

No. Stores are changing prices according to their stock, title's popularity and other factors. As a result, the best offers for different titles are found on different stores. Not only that: the same title may be cheaper one day on one store, and the next day on a different store.

I have a book to sell, can I list it with FetchBook?

You can't list books directly with us. However, you can get your books listed at any of the book market-places we scan (such as Amazon.com, Alibris.com, Abebooks.com, and so on). Since we scan these marketplaces, your titles will be shown by our engine.

How can I optimize my search for a specific title?

Our searching mechanism is in fact a keyword search. This allows you to search both for a specific title or for a bunch of titles related to a specific topic. By choosing the right words you can choose the level of focus you desire. For example if one is looking for the book Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, he can simply search for the words Wizard of Oz, and he will see the book he was looking for.
On the other hand if one is not sure what exact book he needs, he can choose the level of focus of the search. For example, someone looking for a biology related book, can search for the word Biology and he will get a Biology related book list. Someone interested in books related to Micro Biology can search for the words Micro Biology for more focused results, and someone interested in Micro Organisms can search for the words Micro Organisms.
Naturally the same is correct with any other search, as you can see in searches Medicine, Radiology and Orthopedic Radiology.

Why do I see only few offers for my title?

In every price comparison we search for the lowest price at all of the book stores in our lists.
In reality, none of the book stores sells all the existing titles. In fact, there are title that are sold by no more than a few book stores. In case a store doesn't have an offer for a title, it would not appear on the price comparison table.
If you have found a book store that was not included in our search, please let us know and we'll add it to our book stores lists, so the rest of the book reading community can enjoy it too.

So - is there any reason at all to pay the full list-price for a book?

Well, from a purely economic perspective- there's really no reason to pay the full list-price of a book when FetchBook can find the book at 20%-80% off.
But there is another perspective: the author's perspective. When a book is deeply discounted, the publisher gets its cut and the bookseller gets its cut, but the author's royalty is reduced to next to nothing. The majority of published authors, even those with big publishers, are not Stephen King or J.K. Rowling. They don't make a living at it, they keep their day jobs and many lose money promoting their books for years. When you pay the full list-price for books, you're actually supporting the people who create the books, and encourage them to create more.
Thanks to our users for pointing this out to us.
